Robert Rennick farmer aws born in Ireland in Dec. 1830. He came to Galena in 1848 and ran a smelting furnace for 2 years. In 1850 he came to Shullsburg as an agent for William Hempstead's mineral holdings. He received and paid for all the mineral produced averaging from 100,000 to 250,000 pounds a week. He then came to Gratiot's Grove and engaged in farming; was burned out and returned to Shullsburg. He the bought the Zebidiah Gates Farm consisting of 80 acres. He also owned 200 acres in White Oak Springs. He married Matilda Coyn of Ireland in 1851. They had 10 children.
